A learning style is the ideal way of learning based on one's preferences, strengths and weaknesses. There are several types of learning styles :
Visual Learner
Being a visual learner entails thinking in pictures rather than in words. Visual learners learn best by utilizing graphics such as graphs, tables, charts, maps and so on.
eg: pictures, diagrams, movies
Auditory Learner
The auditory learning style means a person learns best by listening. Auditory learners tend to do well in a traditional school environment listening to lectures, and also contributing to discussions.
eg: musics, discussion, lectures
Kinesthetic Learner
Kinesthetic learners find the most success when they can get their entire body engaged in the learning process rather than just seeing or hearing. Kinesthetic learner learns through physical experience - touch, move hold and move something.
eg: movement, experiments, hands on activities
Reading / Writing Learner
A read/write learner often prefer written text and emphasis on text-based input and output.
A Learning Strategy is a person's approach to learning and using information.
Language learning strategies are temporary-kind-of-things which are momentarily techniques that we use in learning a language.
I would like to share three types of strategies which are,
1. metacognitive 2. affective 3. social
It is important to understand that these strategies aim to allow learners to become more self-directed in learning process
Brief explaination of each strategy:
1. Metacognitive: allows learners to control their learning 2. Affective: allows learners to gain control over their emotions 3. Social: helps learners to interact with others
These learning strategies are holistic approach for effective language learning. Teachers can utilise these strategies in different activities to encourage students and students can choose the strategy that suits them the best in self-learning.
